Inoculate your pet

Before you travel with your pet overseas you will need to inoculate. There are many different regulations depending on what country you are travelling to.

Even if you are not sending your dog overseas – it is a very good idea to inoculate your cats and dogs – Rabies is very prevalent in South Africa at the moment… and as we know – if your child gets bitten there is very little chance of survival. For your own sake and for the sake of your children – and other peoples children and pets – YOU MUST inoculate against rabies.

Pets Travel – Animal Transport to the UK

  • Quarantine for six months for traveling dogs and traveling cats in a (government approved), privately run quarantine kennel.
  • Birds : 35 days house quarantine (no other birds in the house).
  • Inoculations : Rabies inoculations done outside the UK are not accepted and are done immediately on arrival. Some kennels accept the normal feline and canine inoculations, other insist that they are done on arrival.
  • Animals traveling to the UK must be accompanied by an import permit and a health certificate. The health certificate is only valid for 14 days.

Pets Travel – Animal Transport to the US & Canada

  • There is no quarantine in the USA (except for the state of Hawaii) or Canada for dogs and cats. Requirements are a valid rabies vaccination (valid meaning no more than 1 year old and not less than 30 days old at travel).
  • A Health Clearance Certificate which is valid for 10 days.
  • Birds however, are quarantined for a month in the USA at a government owned quarantine station. In Canada there is house quarantine for 45 days and the bird must arrive on the same flight as the owner.

Pets Travel – Animal Transport to Australia

  • PLEASE NOTE : No birds are allowed into Australia.
  • The following breeds of dogs are prohibited :

. Dogo Argentino
. Fila Brasileiro
. Japansese Tosa
. Pit Bull Terrier or American Pit Bull

  • Quarantine accommodation available in Australia – Sydney, Melbourne or Perth.

  • Quarantine: Total quarantine 7 months. (Quarantine in South Africa, one of two options 3 months in South Africa and a further 4 months upon arrival in Australia or 6 months in South Africa and 1 month upon arrival in Australia).

Pets Travel – Animal Transport to New Zealand

  • PLEASE NOTE : No birds are allowed into New Zealand.
  • Quarantine in total: 4 months upon arrival. Procedure is started 6 months prior to departure to New Zealand at home (no quarantine), and then 4 months quarantine in New Zealand.
  • Birds however, are quarantined for a month in the USA at a government owned quarantine station. In Canada there is house quarantine for 45 days and the bird must arrive on the same flight as the owner.

Pets Travel – Animal Transport to Middle and Far East

  • These countries have very strict and varied regulations. Quarantine and restricted breeds imposed by certain countries.
  • Israel does not accept puppies under the age of 4 months.
  • Birds however, are quarantined for a month in the USA at a government owned quarantine station. In Canada there is house quarantine for 45 days and the bird must arrive on the same flight as the owner.

  • Most south American countries require an import permit and consular clearance.
  • Birds however, are quarantined for a month in the USA at a government owned quarantine station. In Canada there is house quarantine for 45 days and the bird must arrive on the same flight as the owner.

Pets Travel – Animal Transport to Europe

  • Your pet needs to be micro chipped, with a chip that meets the ISO Standard 11784 or ISO Standard 11785 requirements.
  • Following the microchip, your pet needs a rabies vaccination.
  • At least 30 days after the rabies vaccination a blood a blood sample must be taken by an official veterinarian and sent to Onderstepoort (which is an EU approved laboratory) in order for them to do a RNATT (Rabies Neutralising Antibody Titre Test) This result must be equal to or more than 0.5 IU/ml
  • There is a 90 day waiting period from the date of this sampling before the animal may departure and enter an EU country.
  • Within 10 days of departure there is a specific EU health certificate that is required for that particular EU country. Please check with us in regards to this.
  • Certain European countries have a “restricted breed” list. Please contact us in this regard.
Before travelling you need to inoculate your dogs and cats. Rabies is an incurable disease – for the sake of you children – INOCULATE NOW
